Mothers who have had an IUD put in after baby is born, good or bad experience?

I will be having my second child within the next 2 weeks, and want to get an IUD after he is born. Iv heard good and bad things about it. I want to get a non hormonal one, but are the hormonal ones better? And my doctor says i can't get it until 6 weeks post partum, and that's fine with me. Just wondering about other womens experience with the IUD. Would you recommend it or no? Any info and advice appreciated! Thanks=]
