Do they send you back home after Amniotic membrane rupture?

Had lots of severe pain yesterday . Was supposed to go to Dr for an ultrasound today . But two hours before the aptmt had a Amniotic membrane rupture . Lost a lot of amniotic fluid . I am waiting for the Dr in reception room .Can they send you back home after amniotic membrane rupture ? How much time for labor to start after amniotic membrane rupture . I have not started the contractions yet
